What is shingle rejuvenation?
Shingle rejuvenation is a liquid treatment applied over an existing asphalt shingle roof to rebuild flexibility in shingles that have dried out and reinforce their structure, so the roof lasts years longer instead of being torn off. It is maintenance on a roof that still has life in it, not a repair for a roof that has already failed.
The treatment is built from nanosilica particles 40 to 60 nanometers across, small enough to penetrate the material instead of forming a layer on the surface.
Why do Ottawa roofs age faster than the shingle wrapper suggests?
Summer UV dries the asphalt binder until shingles start shedding their granules. Winter freeze-thaw cycles then flex shingles that have already gone brittle, and ice dams at the eaves hold meltwater against the shingle edges for weeks at a time.
So the symptoms show up unevenly. South and west facing slopes lose granules first because they take the most sun. North slopes stay damp longer and pick up moss and dark staining. The eaves and the first few courses above them take the ice, and spring melt is usually when a homeowner finds out what the winter did. A nano coating is applied before that damage becomes a replacement bill.
Which roof product does your roof need: NuRoof Fortify, NuRoof Revive or NuRoof Boost?
The condition of the shingles decides it, formalised as the Roof Health Score GoNano assigns your roof at the assessment. Putting the wrong product on a roof wastes the treatment, which is why the assessment comes first.

A roof 15 to 20 years old fits both Revive and Boost on age alone. That overlap is deliberate: the condition of the shingles decides, not the birthday of the roof, and two 15 year old Ottawa roofs on different slopes can be in very different condition. Boost is the option for an older roof that no longer scores high enough for Fortify or Revive.
Be clear-eyed about the tiers. NuRoof Boost does less than NuRoof Revive on weather resistance, hail impact, UV, granule loss, wind, heat and freeze-thaw, and it rejuvenates the shingle less completely. It is the affordable option and it performs like the affordable option. If your roof still qualifies for Revive and you plan to stay in the house, Revive is the better buy.
What does NuRoof Revive restore, and what can it not repair?
NuRoof Revive penetrates deep into the shingle. It does not rebuild anything that is already gone.
What it does:
- Rebuilds flexibility in shingles that have dried out and started to curl at the corners
- Reinforces the structure of the shingle rather than coating over it
- Makes the shingle hydrophobic, which improves drainage: it sheds water instead of soaking it up, and less water in the shingle means less water available to freeze
- Protects against algae and surface erosion, so dirt and organic growth get much less to hold onto
- Reflects UV rays to limit heat absorption, slow aging and prevent discoloration
Granule retention is a NuRoof Fortify claim, not a NuRoof Revive one. For Revive, losing granules is a sign that a roof is a candidate for the treatment, not a result the treatment promises.
What it cannot do:
- Replace shingles that are cracked through, torn off or missing
- Fix failed flashing, valleys or a roof detail that was built wrong
- Give the roof the strength of a new roof. It buys back years, it does not reset the clock

What happens on the day the roof is treated?

- Prep and repair. If your roof qualifies, we take care of any necessary minor repairs and thoroughly clean the surface so the product has sound shingle to penetrate, not moss and grit.
- Treatment. We apply it in one day on a typical residential roof. It soaks into the shingle rather than sitting on top as a film. It is a single application, not an annual product: have the roof reassessed every 10 to 15 years to decide whether a retreatment is worthwhile.

How many years does shingle rejuvenation add, and who issues the warranty?
NuRoof Revive adds up to 12 years of roof life, and a full NuRoof Boost treatment up to 10, on a roof in good enough shape to take it. Where your roof lands inside those figures depends on how much shingle was left to work with when the treatment went on, which is the strongest argument for treating a roof early.
The warranty term is a separate thing from the life-extension figure, and the two should never be read as the same number. GoNano issues a manufacturer's warranty of 3 to 20 years. The term depends on the Roof Health Score GoNano assigns your roof at the assessment and on the number of coats applied.

When is shingle rejuvenation the wrong choice?
In these cases a coating is the wrong purchase and a new roof is the honest answer. We would rather tell you that at the assessment than sell you a treatment that buys nothing.
- Active leaks or interior water damage. Water already has a path through. Find and fix the path first.
- A soft or spongy deck, deck rot or structural sag. Nothing applied to the surface addresses what is under it.
- Shingles missing or broken across the whole roof, or a roof at the end of its service life. Once loss is general rather than local, there is not enough shingle left for a coating to preserve.
- A roof you are about to replace anyway. If replacement is already funded and scheduled, rejuvenation is money spent twice.

What determines the price of shingle rejuvenation in Ottawa?
Published Ontario roofing price guides put a shingle replacement at $8,000 to $20,000 CAD in 2026. That is not a Protexa price. A treatment on a roof that qualifies is typically a fraction of it, fixed in writing after a free assessment.
The roof determines it, not a rate card: its size, pitch, number of storeys and how safely a crew can reach every slope, the condition of the shingles and how much granule loss there is, the cleaning and minor repairs needed before coating, and which of the three products the roof qualifies for.
